Hi and welcome to Ms. Urban's Kindergarten Class Blog. We are an amazing group of Kindergarteners at County Line Elementary in New Braunfels, Texas. We call ourselves the Letter Land Kids because we are crazy about reading and writing!!! We read and write our way through all the subjects and have a blast doing so! We love school and love all that we learn. We hope you enjoy stopping by our blog from time to time to check out what we are up to!

Sweet Ending!

This was a couple of weeks back when we learned all about our five senses. Ms. Urban let us have a taste testing to see just how salty, sweet, sour and bitter tasted on the different parts of our tongues. She played a mean trick on us! See what happened!

New Friend

After Ms. Urban nearly walked head-on into this friendly little spider, we all gathered around to take an up close look. It sure was neat to watch her slowly let out her web until she made it all the way to the ground. Ms. Urban scooped her up in a baggie right before she made it though! We counted all eight of her legs and discussed both of her body parts. It was so cool!

German Kids

Boy did we have fun with the German band! We loved dancing to several traditional german songs, especially the Chicken Dance! Allison even wore her real dancing gear and gave us a private show of everything she has learned in her German Dance club. We were so impressed! We are ready for Wurstfest!

Community Helpers

Here are a few shots from our community helper visits over the last couple of weeks. We were able to walk over to the fire station and receive an upclose and personal tour to the fire house, engine and EMS truck. We then had a visit from NBPD and a couple of K9 units. We were very impressed with how well trained the dogs were. We also enjoyed learning all about our local utilities company, NBU!

Donuts for Dads

CLE welcomed all dads to come join their children for donuts this past week. We had a great turn out and it was a treat to see many of the dads from our Kindergarten class attend. Here is a picture of Charissa's dad and sisters! Muffins for mom will come soon!

Fun Friday!

This past Friday was pretty fun! We had a famous author visit our school. Susan Stevens Crummel is not only a great writer and author, but she's such a fun entertainer as well! Parker got to help her out some. We also had a fun little parade to celebrate Constitution day. The students had a great time showing their pride for the great USA. We have also posted our "Best Part of Me" slideshow. The kids told why they loved that body part so much!

2009-2010 Letterland Class

Hello All!
We want to welcome you to our new school year. We have been hard at work and have been having tons of fun. Ms. Urban thinks we are pretty much the coolest kids around and is so happy that she is our teacher. We get to do some pretty cool things and never knew school could be so fun! We've had a great time learning all about our school community and leaders. We've also learned how to be Safe, Respectful, and Responsible...our CLE school values and have also learned how to be FISH. Our goal this year is to become Friends Improving and Serving Humanity. We want to learn all that we can so that we can make this world the best place it can possibly be. We are so excited to share all that we learn with you. Ms. Urban promises to post pictures and slideshows often. Check out our website to get all the important dates and info and visit this blog to see some amazing photos of the coolest kids in school! We hope you enjoy! Here are a few pictures of us exploring our classroom and making friends!

Life Cycles

Howdy All!

Well, as soon as our school was closed, Mrs. Cary gave the teachers permission to go collect any important work they would need. Mrs. Lynch, Mrs. Mims and Miss Urban went as fast as we could to get our caterpillars! With the fast move, some of the caterpillars did different things. Some of them had already turned into the chrysalis stage, and some were frightened and stopped eating. You can see in the pictures that we still have one caterpillar that is back to eating and not yet ready to fall asleep! One that has fallen off of the paper lid and is in the bottom of the cup of food, and the rest are doing changing rapidly! All chrysalis' are in their butterfly cages now and should turn into the last stage of butterflies within the week...although we never know...perhaps we can see the last caterpillar turn into a butterfly when we return. Stay tuned for the lasted updates!

Happy Spring!

Hello All!
I hope this post finds you well! We have been super busy and learning up a storm. We apologize for not getting as many posts up as we should, there has been lots going on! Most of you get our newsletters and know what we've been up to, but for those of you who don't, here are a few snap shops of our main events! We had a great family night in March where we shared our daily math routines with our parents. Everyone engaged in free exploration math tubs to learn about numbers, shapes, sorting, measurement, addition, subtraction, etc. We loved sharing the ways we learn with our families!
We also had tons of fun preparing for Easter. We got to learn about matter in the Science lab as we boiled water to prepare eggs for decorating. We saw how liquid can turn to a gas with the water, and also saw a liquid substance of a raw egg turn into a solid, hard, cooked egg. We also saw how colored tablets mixed with vinegar allowed eggs to be dyed and turned into beautiful creations! After we prepared our eggs, we had a fantastic egg hunt where Miss Urban made us hunt for specific eggs that were marked with letters, shapes, numbers and words. It was great!
We hope you enjoy our pictures!
